Hello! I am Sami Fales, a graduate of the College of Education from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education and am so excited to be part of the East Paulding High School family! This website is a chance for you to learn a little bit more about me and my vision for our class this year. I hope this provides you with the information you want and need from me, and I hope you enjoy!
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a teacher. I have memories of being a child and telling my teachers that I wanted to be exactly like them when I grew up. I believed for numerous years that I was going to be a kindergarten teacher, until I met a precious young boy named Charlie, who had Down Syndrome. I was given the opportunity to work with Charlie during Sunday School at church when he required someones full attention or else he had the potential to run. After only one day of working one-on-one with this sweet boy, I knew that my heart was changing and leaning towards something more than just regular education. I began to look more into the field of special education and actually considered a major in Music Therapy before I committed to the idea of Special Education. I told myself I wanted to do only pre-school Special Ed and that there was no changing my mind - until I reached my high school placement during undergrad. I had attended a meeting for the LEA's of Jones County where I met the LEA for the high school in the county. After a 10 minute conversation with her, I was hooked on her students and wanted nothing more than to be able to speak such amazing words of my students as she did hers. She helped flip my world upside down when I was placed with her for my high school placement, and my heart has since been passionate for teaching high school students with special needs. These students are getting ready to move out into the big world, and need someone to advocate for them and their lives. I want to be that person for my students. I cannot wait to see where my path leads me in this career as a high school special education teacher, and I know I will be touched by each and every student that crosses it.
